about
the quest

The Coffee Quest is a young, ambitious and social, raw coffee company. Our team of around 50 coffee professionals works in 4 country offices; Colombia, Brazil, The Netherlands and The USA. We value Traceability, Collaboration and Quality and our goal is to add value to coffee and make it into a sustainable and profitable business for farmers and roasters alike.

What we do, and how we do it!

Together with our suppliers in 10 different origins we represent the work of over 10.000 farming families. We buy their coffee at a premium, and incentivize production of higher quality for which we pay a higher price. We bring their coffee to market with the added value of knowledge and insight, amazing visual material and digital content. We provide easy access to a wide array of specialty coffees to roasters in Europe and the US, and work hand in hand with our key accounts in planning their green coffee requirements. We invest our profits back into the producers with our impact programs, to build a future-proof, sustainable coffee chain.

Meet OUR FOUNDERS

Michiel Lampers

SALES & FINANCE

At the Agricultural University of Wageningen I studied rural development sociology and worked for cooperatives and growers. I fell in love with the developing World, and wanted to get more involved in helping rural communities with sustainable development.

My first experience with coffee was on a trip to Zimbabwe, where I did research back in 2009.Through the years, I specialized in the commercial and financial side of the business. My sourcing network involves our African Origins, and I support work for some Central American ones.

I love to identify needs and develop business for our Origin Partners, I believe the key is to provide added value for our Roasting partners.

Together we stand at the frontier of Coffee Traceability, Collaboration and Quality. And that my friends, is something I’m proud of, and thankful for every day I get to work with you!

My coffee journey started in Nicaragua, where I was taken in by the Peralta Family, working at the local Dry Mill, but slipping into the cupping room as much as possible. After Central America I ended up in Rwanda to support a local exporter trading low grade coffee.

First-hand seeing underpaid workers processing large quantities of low quality beans. Unfortunately the majority of the sector is shaped like this. This was the real coffee school. Who would have known?! I ended up doing exactly what I studied for with Supply chain Management and Entrepreneurship.

I love the different personalities in our Team that have a similar interest in specialty coffee, valuing transparent and personal trade. My family comes from a background in Academics, I kept the same interest, but prefer practical implementation. I’m able to develop my passion in cupping coffee lots as Q-grader, but overall it’s all about helping the fellow entrepreneur on both sides of the ocean.

OPERATIONS & QUALITY CONTROL

ACCOUNT MANAGEMENT

My coffee epiphany happened tasting an Ethiopian Yirgacheffe Natural while I was doing an internship at the Parisian Roaster L’Arbre à Café.  As soon as I finished my master in Geography of Food Cultures, I moved to the Netherlands in 2016 and decided that a happy job, means good coffee around me! The first person to answer to my letters and resumes was Michiel, who just started to work together with Friso and Ronald.

Being a part of a growing company is an amazing challenge: combining a quality products and structuring new projects; and most of all a fair collaboration with the participants of the coffee chain!

In this rich environment, I specialized in Account Management and Sales. Finding coffee lots, matching roaster’s needs and transmitting quality with added value. Thát is my mission. This key position makes me meet passionate people from various cultures and backgrounds and thus understand each participant’s work and challenges of the coffee chain. In our Team my goal is to implement a smoother, stronger collaboration through innovative ways.
