Located in Santo Antônio do Amparo in the Campo das Vertentes region of Minas Gerais, Fazenda Pinhal is a 1,270-hectare coffee farm managed by João Newton Reis Teixeira, Pedro, and Milau Gabarra. Perched at 1,050 meters above sea level, the farm produces a wide range of coffee varieties, including Acaia, Catucai Vermelho e Amarelo, Bourbon, Uva, and Geisha. Known for its high-quality specialty coffee, Fazenda Pinhal employs meticulous processing methods, such as 96-hour natural fermentation and drying on patios and in dryers. Recognized for its sustainability, the farm holds certifications from UTZ, Rainforest Alliance, AAA Nespresso, BSCA, and 4C.
The Natural lots undergo 96 hours of water-based fermentation, followed by careful drying on patios and in mechanical dryers. The Honey lots do not undergo fermentation and, after processing, are dried on patios and in mechanical dryers.
João Newton Reis Teixeira represents the sixth generation of coffee growers in his family, passionately carrying forward a legacy that spans over a century. While João has dedicated the past 20 years to managing the farm, he shares responsibilities with his family. His children play integral roles, with one focusing on environmental projects and another on administration, while he hopes his younger children will inherit the same passion for coffee cultivation.
Fazenda Pinhal has earned a reputation as a leader in sustainability within the specialty coffee industry. In 2019, it was named Brazil’s Most Sustainable Farm after transitioning entirely to renewable energy using solar panels. By 2020, it achieved CarbonNeutral® certification. Of its 914 hectares, 35% is dedicated to coffee cultivation, with the remaining land preserved as natural reserves or reforested areas, including a 20-hectare native forest redevelopment and a eucalyptus plantation.
Since 2018, the Gabarra family has implemented various environmental and social initiatives. These include the Wings Project (2019–2024), which rehabilitates and releases wildlife, solar energy programs, waste management systems, and environmental education in local schools. With 60 full-time employees and 100 seasonal workers, Fazenda Pinhal balances exceptional coffee production with a strong commitment to ecological and social impact, securing its legacy for generations to come.
