Finca Bella Vista is located in the vereda San José del Riocito in Acevedo, Huila, Colombia, and is managed by Ernesto Naranjo, a 39-year-old, first-generation coffee grower. The farm consists of 3 hectares of land, with 2 hectares dedicated to growing coffee. It sits at an elevation of 1,800 m.a.s.l, and with around 3,500 coffee trees in production of the Pink Bourbon variety.
Ernesto starts his lots by carefully handpicking the ripest cherries, which he leaves in open tanks to ferment for 2 days, then de-pulping. The parchment is then placed in the tanks and submerged in water to ferment for an additional 2 days until it is washed and placed to dry in raised beds for 15 – 17 days, depending on the weather.
Ernesto dived into coffee because of his wife, Leidy Bravo. She inherited the farm from her parents and convinced Ernesto to move there and start growing their coffee in 2020, right at the peak of the pandemic.
After much trial and error, Finca Bella Vista has become one of the farms with the most exponential turnover of cup scores we have EVER seen, a milestone that landed him and his wife a place in our Huila Magico Hall of Fame, as our (much deserved) Winner of the Fourth Edition.
Aside from coffee, Ernesto also produces Pitaya and aims to continue growing his farm, by planting more Pink Bourbon. We started working with Ernesto and Leidy and Finca Bella Vista in 2024, and hit it off on the right foot. We are thrilled for future harvests!
