Finca El Roble, from Urrao, Antioquia

Finca El Roble is located in Urrao, Antioquia, Colombia, and is managed by Albeiro de Jesus Ramirez Aguirre, a 47-year-old, second-generation coffee grower. The farm consists of 5 hectares of land and sits at an elevation of 1,980 masl. With over 8,000 coffee trees, the farm is dedicated to growing the highly sought-after Caturra Chiroso.

Albeiro processes his coffee in a simple, yet effective way. Upon harvesting, the cherries are left overnight to ferment, before being de-pulped in the afternoon. The parchment is then placed in open tanks for 70 hours and washed to remove the mucilage. After this, the parchment is spread in raised beds for around 12 – 15 days to dry, depending on the weather.

Third Place - Antioquia Magico 2023

Being around coffee his entire life (Starting as early as 7 years of age, he recalls), Albeiro purchased Finca El Roble in 2015. The previous owners of the farm were an older couple, and the infrastructure required a renovation. He began adecuating the farm to welcome the incredible Caturra Chiroso variety and planted an initial 6,000 trees.

Besides coffee, Albeiro and his wife produce avocado, plantains, and bananas on the farm.

We have been working together with Albeiro and Finca El Roble since 2022, and each year they get us excited about what lies ahead!
