Finca El Vergel is located in Santa María, Huila, Colombia, and is managed by Juval Antonio Gutiérrez, a 53-year-old second-generation coffee producer. The farm spans 3 hectares of land at 1,850 m.a.s.l., where Juval cultivates Caturra, Castillo, and Pink Bourbon varieties.
Juval begins his process with a 24-hour cherry fermentation, followed by depulping and an extended 60-hour anaerobic fermentation in sealed tanks. The parchment is laid to dry for 15 days in a marquesina (greenhouse), with constant movement throughout the day.
Learning everything from his father at a very young age, Juval has spent four decades perfecting his approach to coffee cultivation. He shifted his farm from commercial coffee to specialty coffee in 2019 with the hopes of improving his family’s quality of life.
Nowadays, his focus lies on improving his farm’s infrastructure to increase the capacity and quality of his coffees, with the aim of planting more exotic varieties!
We began working with Juval and Finca El Vergel in 2025, drawn by his deep connection to the land and commitment to quality.
