Finca La Arboleda is located in Vereda San Carlos, in Urrao, Antioquia, Colombia, and is managed by Luis Alberto Montoya (69) and his daughter Mildred Montoya (38), with the entire family dedicated to coffee. The farm spans 6 hectares, with 15,000 coffee trees at 2,100 m.a.s.l. Among these, 10,000 are Chiroso, along with Castillo Rosario, Cenicafé 1, and Catimor. This lot is 100% Chiroso.
The family uses a “cochadas” processing method: they harvest ripe cherries, float and hand-select them, and then depulp daily from Monday to Friday, leaving the wet parchment submerged in open tanks. On Sundays, all parchment is washed and laid to dry in marquesinas for 8 to 10 days, depending on the weather.
Luis Alberto bought Finca La Arboleda with his brother in the 1980’s. From the beginning, they grew commercial coffee and beans, but 15 years ago (long before Chiroso became widely known) they decided to plant 2,000 Chiroso trees as a trial, and stuck with it.
Today, the farm is a family affair, with Luis Alberto, Mildred, and her mother all contributing to the harvest and processing. In addition to coffee, they maintain a small plot of avocados.
We began working with Luis Alberto, Mildred, and Finca La Arboleda in 2026, and we are excited to keep building this relationship!
