Finca La Gloria is located in Vereda Aguachiquitas, in Urrao, Antioquia, Colombia, and is managed by José Uriel Cardona Montoya, a 53‑year‑old coffee producer who worked as a farm laborer for most of his life. The farm spans 10 hectares, with 1.5 hectares dedicated to coffee at 2,070 m.a.s.l. Here, José Uriel cultivates exclusively the Chiroso variety across approximately 4,000 trees.
José Uriel uses a “cochadas” processing method: he harvests ripe cherries and de-pulps them each day, all week long, leaving them to ferment in stainless steel tanks as it gradually fills up (usually around the five day mark). The parchment is then washed and dried in marquesinas for 8 to 12 days, depending on the weather.
For years, José Uriel worked as a day laborer and grew “lulo” fruit and beans. In 2015, he bought Finca La Gloria piece by piece with his savings…. and in 2021, he heard about a variety called Chiroso that offered great cup quality and required fewer chemical inputs. Soon thereafter, he decided to grow some on his farm and the results have been outstanding!
We began working with José Uriel and Finca La Gloria in 2026, and we are excited to keep building this relationship!
