Finca La Guaca, in Santa María, Huila

Finca La Guaca is located in Vereda Los Pinos in Santa María, Huila, Colombia, and is managed by Leidy Horta, a 37-year-old second-generation coffee producer. The farm spans 7 Ha, with 18,000 coffee trees of Caturra, F6, and Pink Bourbon planted at an elevation of 1,900 m.a.s.l. In addition, she expects a small plot of Geisha to entre production in the coming years.

Leidy’s processing begins with selectively harvesting ripe cherries, which are then left for two days on the hopper before being de-pulped. The wet parchment is then washed and laid to dry on raised beds for 10-15 days, depending on the weather.

Quality, Not Necessarily Quantity

Leidy grew up with coffee and learned everything from her parents. She has always preferred the peace of the countryside to the hustle and bustle of the city, so she bought Finca La Guaca in 2016 from her in-laws and began growing her own coffee.

We met Leidy and Finca La Guaca thanks to Camila, the manager of our buying station in Santa María. She helped introduce Leidy to specialty by explaining the entire process, from picking to processing to sampling. In addition to coffee, Finca La Guaca grows plantains and avocados.

We have been working with Leidy and Finca La Guaca since 2024, and we look forward to sharing the exceptional coffees from this remarkable farm.
