Finca La Primavera is located in Vereda El Vergel, Santa María, Huila, Colombia, and is managed by Orlando Osorio, a 42-year-old second-generation coffee producer. The farm spans 12 hectares at 1,800 m.a.s.l., where Orlando grows the Colombia, Cenicafé, and F6 varieties across approximately 9,000 trees.
Orlando’s process begins with selective harvesting over two consecutive days. On the third day, the cherries are depulped without the use of water, and the wet parchment is fermented in sealed barrels for four days (adding a fun yeast to help guide the process). The coffee is then laid to dry for 10–15 days in a greenhouse, depending on the weather.
Orlando Osorio learned the craft from his parents, working alongside them since childhood. In 2015, he took a decisive step by acquiring Finca La Primavera to produce coffee independently. It was until 2018 when The Coffee Quest opened its Santa María buying station that he was introduced to specialty coffee, and got curious. The team then gave him a visit, began training him on special processing, and the rest is history.
Looking ahead, Orlando aims to continue elevating quality and growing exotic varieties. He has already begun planting some Chiroso trees and is nurturing a Java lot!
We began working with Orlando in 2018, and we are excited to keep bringing his coffees and growing this relationship!
