Finca Los Naranjos is located in Vereda Cardal, Acevedo, Huila, Colombia, and is managed by José Peña, a 41-year-old, second generation coffee producer. The farm spans 7 hectares of land, with José managing 3 of those hectares at 1,700 m.a.s.l. Here, he cultivates 12,000 trees of the Bourbon Rosado, Supremo, and Castillo varieties.
José’s process begins with selectively harvesting ripe cherries, which are left in bags to ferment for 24 hours before being de-pulped. The parchment is then placed in barrels for an additional 48 hours, washed, and dried in a marquesinas for 10–15 days, depending on the weather.
José Peña’s journey with coffee began 25 years ago when his parents gifted him 2 hectares of land. He began with 1,000 coffee trees of Castillo, and decided to invest and purchase an additional hectare of land, to expand his production.
We met José thanks to our Director of Coffee in Huila, Alberto, during one of his visits to SENA in Pitalito, where José was learning about post-harvesting techniques.
We began working with José Peña and Finca Los Naranjos in 2024, and we are very excited to keep on bringing in his Pink Bourbon!
