Finca Los Sauces is located in Urrao, Antioquia, Colombia, and managed by Carlos Andrés Arango, a 34-year-old, second-generation coffee grower. The farm consists of 63 hectares of land and sits at an elevation of 2,200 m.a.s.l, with around 5,000 coffee trees in production of the Caturra Chiroso variety.
Carlos’ family are milk cattle ranchers by tradition. It was their main source of income for generations, until a sorrow day in 2001, when their cattle was stolen, leaving the family struggling. It was then, that they decided to look into other opportunities for their farm, and found stability in coffee. They started growing the more traditional Catimore variety, and selling to the local cooperative.
It wasn’t until 2009 that they noticed their cousins (From Finca La Falda, in the same region) growing a new variety: Chiroso.
In 2014, they decided to buy a bigger property to grow more coffee and also resume their milk cattle tradition… and that is how Finca Los Sauces was born. We have been working with Carlos and Finca Los Sauces since 2024, and their resilience and perseverance inspire us.
