Finca Media Luna from Urrao, Antioquia

Finca Media Luna is located in Urrao, Antioquia, Colombia, and managed by Jorge Iván Hernández, a 50-year-old, second-generation coffee grower. The farm consists of 2.5 hectares of land and sits at an elevation of 2,000 m.a.s.l, with around 2,400 coffee trees in production of the Chiroso, and Catimor varieties. This lot is 100% Chiroso.

Jorge Iván processes his coffee by harvesting the ripest cherries and leaving them to dry ferment overnight in open tanks. Cherries are then de-pulped and placed in sealed barrels to ferment for an additional 144 hours, after which the parchment is washed and dried on raised beds for up to 18 days, depending on the weather.

Urrao’s Half Moon

Finca Media Luna (Which is Spanish for Half Moon) was bought by Jorge Iván 9 years ago when he decided to start his own coffee business in Urrao.

He grew up around coffee and learned everything from his father, and other producers in Urrao since it is a significant coffee producing region in Antioquia.

The Hernández family live on the farm, they all help with the chores of the land and aim to expand their production and volumes within the next 3 years.

We have been working with Jorge Iván and Finca Media Luna since 2024, and their vision and perseverance inspire us.
