Finca Puerto Rico, from Santa María, Huila
Finca Puerto Rico is located in Vereda San Joaquín, Santa María, Huila, Colombia, and is managed by Yesica Lorena Caviedes, a second-generation coffee producer. The property spans 4.5 hectares at 1,740 m.a.s.l., where Yesica cultivates approximately 20,000 coffee trees of Cenicafé 1, Colombia, and Caturra varieties, with Pink Bourbon on the way.
Yesica’s process begins with selective harvesting, floating, and fermenting the cherries whole. After two days, the coffee is depulped and fermented again in tanks with added yeast for another two days. The coffee is then gently washed and dried in a marquesina for 14 to 20 days, depending on the weather.
Built by a Couple, Rooted in Family
Finca Puerto Rico was born from the effort of a couple of coffee growers. Yesica has been a coffee producer her whole life, thanks to her parents, who left two hectares to her and her then‑boyfriend (now husband) so they could begin producing their own coffee. In 2017, the couple purchased the adjacent lot and built their own infrastructure, forming what is now known as Finca Puerto Rico.
They met The Coffee Quest through Faver Ninco of Finca Costa Rica (Yesica is actually the godmother of Camila, our Santa María buying station leader!) and learned all the good stuff from them.
We began working with Yesica and Finca Puerto Rico in 2024, and we are excited to keep building this relationship.
