Finca Tierra Grata from Santa María, Huila.
Finca Tierra Grata is located in La Plata, Huila, Colombia, and is managed by Neyid Yasno: a 29-year-old, second-generation coffee grower. The farm consists of 1.5 hectares of land and sits at an elevation of 1,800 masl. Although small, the farm has around 1,400 coffee trees in production of the Pink Bourbon and F6 varieties, with 2,000 more Pink Bourbon trees on the way!
Neyid starts his lot by carefully handpicking the ripest of cherries, and removing all floaters, before bagging and fermenting them for an initial 20 hours. After this, the cherries are de-pulped and placed in tiled tanks filled with water for up to 36 hours for a final fermentation. Upon washing, the coffee is left to dry in parabolic dryers for 15-20 days, depending on the weather.
A Grateful and Rich Soil
Neyid and his family have lived in the countryside all of their lives, earning a living thanks to the rich soil of La Plata, Huila. Their farm, Tierra Grata, was inherited 6 years ago by Neyid’s wife and in those 1.5 Ha of land, they grew all sorts of fruits, vegetables and legumes: from Cassava and Plantain to Mangoes and Banana.
Initially with the F6 variety, Neyid started processing and selling it to the local cooperative Occicafé. Soon thereafter, he learned of the exotic Pink Bourbon variety which would yield higher prices, and was endemic to Huila… and that is how 2 years ago he started his specialty journey.
We started working with Neyid and Finca Tierra Grata since 2024, and we look forward to building the relationship!
