Finca Villa Luna, from Urrao, Antioquia
Finca Villa Luna is located in Vereda La Cartagena, Urrao, Antioquia, Colombia, and is managed by Wilmar Urrego Benitez, a 44‑year‑old producer who has been farming for most of his life. The farm spans 2 hectares at 1,800 m.a.s.l., where Wilmar cultivates Chiroso across 2,500 trees, with an additional 1,000 trees in development.
Wilmar’s process begins with selective harvesting of ripe cherries, which he ferments overnight in a barrel. The following day, he de-pulps the coffee without the use of water and seals it in closed barrels for a second fermentation lasting 60 hours. After a light rinse, the coffee is dried in a marquesina for 8 to 12 days, depending on the weather.
From Commercial to Specialty
Wilmar purchased Finca Villa Luna 15 years, driven by his coffee roots, and began producing commercial coffee. It wasn’t until nine years ago (2017), when he heard from neighbors about the excellence of Chiroso. Intrigued, he planted the variety and began his transition toward quality. Three years ago, motivated by better prices, he shifted entirely to specialty coffee production.
Wilmar has always been a farmer, working with avocados alongside coffee. His family is actively involved in the farm’s operations—his brother also grows coffee on a neighboring property, and together they support each other during harvest and throughout the year.
We began working with Wilmar and Finca Villa Luna in 2026, and we are excited to keep building this relationship.
