For four years, we have had the pleasure of working with Luis Alberto Balladarez Mocada. So far, we worked together with Beneficio Las Segovias and Finca Un Regalo De Dios both run by him. Now we are excited to work with Finca La Bendición as well.
Finca La Bendición translated means “blessing,” and seeing the property, this truly is the case. The finca is located in the mountain range Dipilto-Jalapa which is in the Northeast of the department of Nueva Segovia. The 252-acres-land is a host of a rich, biodiverse environment with a variety of flora and fauna, of which 105 acres are dedicated to coffee plantations.
Luis Alberto has a true passion for specialty coffee and knows his craft like no other. He has won the 6th place in the Cup Of Excellence in 2021 after landing the 1st place in 2020, so it is to no surprise that his coffee is of tremendous value. His coffee knowledge comes from three generations of family legacy.

Luis’ great passion translates into the care he puts into the production process. His eye and care for detail are impeccable and start from the very beginning of picking the cherries at the farm. The coffee from Finca La Bendición is transported to the Las Segovias Mill, where Luis Alberto will make sure evry process for each coffee follows controlled protocols.
One thing that makes Luis’ coffee so unique is his exceptional drying process. Here, the key is the stability that Luis and his staff are maintaining. Washed coffees and honeys dry for a period of around 20 to 25 days, and naturals dry a bit longer; for about 30 to 35 days.
The exceptionality of the coffee does not only start with the processing. The coffee plants at Finca La Bendición grow in ideal conditions. The combination of rich biodiversity on the land, the loose sandy soil and annual rainfall between 1,400 and 1,600mm creates a perfect environment for the plants. They grow at an elevation of 1,300m and are of great variety: you can find some Caturra, Red Catuai, Hybrids, Villa Sarchi, Pacamara, Maracaturra, H-3, Marsezella, SL-28, and Java.

The Coffee Quest started the collaboration with Luis Alberto in 2018 and we are extremely happy to see it growing and strengthening over years. What excites us the most is seeing him reaching great success. Luis Alberto is a trusted producer whose coffee is of unique quality. He is a true coffee lover and has proven himself not only to us, as he ranked in the Top 10 for several years in the Cup of Excellence (2017, 2018, 2020, 2021).

Throughout our collaboration with Luis Alberto, he has always shared that the issue of climate change is an important matter to him. Working in the agricultural sector he can see the effect of climate change on the maturation and fermentation of his plants. That is why he uses organic fertilizers and filters.
The maintenance of the natural environment on the property of La Finca La Bendición and the nature around is an important endeavour, and The Coffee Quest is happy to work with producers who value and acknowledge the importance of cherishing our planet.

Beneficio Las Segovias, SHG Special Lot from Nicaragua
Even the best producers will not produce 100% of their harvest as micro-lots, we all know this. As such, it’s important for us to find ways to support our producers across all ranges of qualities: this SHG Special is a blend comprised of coffees from Luis Alberto’s farms, as well as five other producers from the following regions: Dipilto, Jinotega, and Matagalpa, in Nicaragua, with farms ranging from 1,000 – 1,500 m.a.s.l.
