El Salvador has been an interesting addition to the assortment of The Coffee Quest. In 2017 we arrived in San Salvador after visiting Nicaragua as part of our Roaster trip. Though introduction we came across Juan Andres, a young coffee professional working with a small team on the Specialty branche at COEX. The first year it was clear that we needed a stable supplier from El Salvador and Juan was our guy. In this small Central-American country you will find a wide range of small & big farms, sometimes in great shape, but often very much affected by Leaf Rust. The country definitely has a rough side to it, which you know when you have visited, but it’s great to see a new generation working hard on quality and experimenting with new varieties and post-harvest techniques.
