Othosololo Honey, from Guji, Ethiopia

The Othosololo Honey lot comes from the Osolo Station, located in the Greitu Korsa highland area of Guji Oromia, Ethiopia. The station serves approximately 150 to 200 smallholder farmers from the surrounding communities of Wocho Sololo, Tabata, Mebocho, and Mender. Their farms sit at elevations of 2,240 to 2,280 m.a.s.l., where the primary variety is JARC 74158, along with other JARC varieties like 74112 and 74110.

For this Honey process, fresh, carefully selected red cherries are delivered to the Osolo Station and de-pulped without the use of water. The wet parchment is then dried on raised beds for 12 to 13 days, with careful monitoring to ensure and even drying process.

Highland Honey

Othosololo’s high elevation, combined with the region’s lush vegetation and warm agricultural climate, creates a unique microclimate. Cool nights and moderate sun allow cherries to develop complex sugars, resulting in a honey‑processed cup that balances bright acidity with rich, syrupy sweetness.

Established in 1996 as producers, Daye Bensa has lived through all the turmoils that coffee growing and exporting entail in the region. Nowadays, they are a reference of excellence and resilience in Ethiopia and work with various communities of out‑growers from whom they receive cherries. They work with multiple washing stations in the Bensa, Sidama area, including some that they own.

In addition to Othosololo, since 2020 we have worked with some of their other washing stations, notably Keramo, Bombe, and Hamasho in the Sidama region, as well as Udesa Fora in Guji. Daye Bensa is no stranger to quality and has learned how to produce high‑quality coffees: in 2020, they won 7th place in the COE, in 2021 8th place, and in 2022, 2nd place!

We are proud to partner with Daye Bensa and the farmers of Osolo Station, and hope to keep bringing their coffees.
