The Rumudamo Anaerobic Washed & Naturals, from Ethiopia
The Arbegona Rumudamo Washing Station is located in the Arbegona woreda or Village and is part of the Sidama zone. Managed by Asefa Dukamo Korma, the site sits at an elevation of 2,200 m.a.s.l and is dedicated to producing Washed, Honey and Natural coffees, where more than 600 farmers contribute with their cherries, mostly with 74112 and other Heirloom varieties.
Once the cherries arrive at the Rumudamo Washing Station, they are placed in water for sorting and removal of floaters, ensuring only the ripest undergo the Anaerobic processing. After this, the cherries are placed in large sealed barrels to ferment without water for upwards of 144 hours! The cherries are then de-pulped and washed before being laid to dry in African beds for 16-20 days, depending on the weather.
Cup of Excellence’s 2nd & 3rd place in 2020
Located amongst the highest elevation when compared to other coffee-growing areas, Rumudamo has a story of excellence, having placed 2nd and 3rd in the 2020 Ethiopia Cup of Excellence.
Established in 1996 as producers, Daye Bensa has lived through all the turmoils that coffee growing and exporting entails in the region. Nowadays, they are a reference of excellence and resilience in Ethiopia and work with various communities of out-growers from whom they receive cherries. They work with multiple washing stations in the Bensa, Sidama area, including some of which they own.
In addition to Rumudamo, over the past 5 years, both in the US and Europe, we have worked with some of their other washing stations, notably: Buncho, Hamasho, Keramo, Bombe, and Elala.
This lot will mark several years working together, and we are extremely excited to develop this relationship!
