Fazenda Sitio Bateia is located in Castelo, Espirito Santo, Brazil and run by Marcos Nalli. The farm sits at a range of elevations from 950 to 1,050 m.a.s.l. and consists of 10 Ha in total.
Marcos currently has 3 of those Ha planted in coffee; 5,000 trees of Red Catuai, 5,000 trees of Red Catucai and 5,000 trees of Yellow Catucai. This particular lot is 100% Red Catuai and processed as a Washed coffee.
Upon picking the ripest cherries, the coffee de-pulped, fermented in water and then washed and laid to dry in a greenhouse structure for approximately 15 days, depending on the weather.
The farm has been in the Nalli family for generations and Marcos has been living and working on the farm his entire life, nearly 55 years! Marcos family also helps out on the farm and together, they manage nearly the entire process from pre-harvest to post-harvest processing.
They do have 1 full-time employee that helps out year round and during the main harvest, they hire 3 seasonal workers. In addition to coffee, the Nalli family also grows Bananas and Plantains. The Nalli family is no stranger to quality though; they have placed in many regional and international coffee competitions, including 14th place in the COE in 2013!
We met Marcos and his family through our partners at origin, Farmers Coffee. This is our first year working with them and Fazenda Sitio Bateia, and we are thrilled to build this relationship!
