Finca Los Tucanes, from Santa Barbara, Honduras
Genaro Hernandez is a 57-year-old coffee producer located in San Jose de los Andes, Santa Barbara, Honduras. His farm, Finca Los Tucanes, spans 1.4 hectares at 1,500 m.a.s.l. Here, he grows of Pacas (33%), IH-90 (33%), and Geisha (34%) varieties.
Genaro begins his Washed process by depulping cherries each afternoon, then dry-fermenting the parchment for 15 hours. The coffee is washed four times with abundant water before being dried for approximately 20 days in a parabolic solar dryer, with continuous hand-sorting throughout the drying phase to ensure excellence.
From Textile Shifts to Specialty Harvests
Genaro’s agricultural journey began with corn, beans, and vegetables on inherited family land, gradually transitioning toward coffee cultivation. In 2008, seeking additional income, he began working at a textile factory while managing his farm with hired workers and his son overseeing daily operations. This dual-role dedication laid the foundation for his specialty coffee transformation.
A pivotal moment came in 2018 when a neighbor purchased Genaro’s harvest and processed it as specialty coffee, achieving excellent results. Inspired by this success, Genaro began preparing and selling specialty coffee under his own name, committing fully to quality-focused production.
We connected with Genaro through Beneficio San Vicente, have been working with his coffee since 2025, and we are excited to showcase his coffees and build this relationship!
