Finca Hoyo Rico is located in the village of Guintar, Anzá, Antioquía, Colombia, and is managed by Luis Arnulfo Caro: a 52-year-old, first-generation coffee grower. The farm consists of 9 hectares of land and sits at an elevation of 2,100 masl. With over 10,000 coffee trees, the farm is dedicated to growing the highly sought-after Caturra Chiroso variety.
Upon harvesting, Luis leaves the cherries in the hopper for 3 days before de-pulping. The parchment is then left submerged in fermenting tanks for up to 6 days, drained, and laid to dry in raised beds for 15-20 days, depending on the weather.
Luis Arnulfo Caro has been a coffee farmer for the past 3 years. He used to be an emerald miner of the region, but thanks to the influence of Jose Arcadio Caro (his brother, and a renowned producer in Urrao), he saw a future in coffee, especially in the “Chiroso” variety.
That is how Luis Arnulfo and his family began their coffee journey, and let me tell you: they started with their best foot forward! The first EVER lot produced by Finca Hoyo Rico was in 2024, and immediately they were off to the “specialty” races!
We look forward to building the relationship with Luis Arnulfo and Finca Hoyo Rico!
