Finca El Pincel is located in Urrao, Antioquia, Colombia, and is managed by José Yenser Urán, a third-generation coffee grower. The farm spans 33 hectares at 1,850 m.a.s.l., divided into plots assigned to Yenser and his eight siblings. On his plot, Yenser cultivates approximately 6,000 trees of the Caturra Chiroso variety.
His processing begins with depulping, followed by a 48‑hour fermentation, then washing and an additional 24‑hour soak in clean water. The coffee is finally dried in a greenhouse for 8 to 12 days.
Yenser grew up alongside his eight siblings, helping his father on the farm from a young age. They learned to prepare the land and cultivate coffee together. As a young adult, Yenser worked as a day laborer on neighboring farms until his father gave him a piece of land, telling him that if he dedicated himself to it, he would have an easier and more peaceful life. That advice shaped Yenser’s path.
The farm relies entirely on the work of the siblings, who collaborate on each other’s projects. During harvest, Yenser occasionally hires two or three pickers—but only those he trusts to pick only ripe cherries.
Yenser has received workshops and ongoing support from The Coffee Quest to improve his quality, and in 2022, he won 4th place in the company’s Antioquia Mágico competition. His dedication and passion for farming inspire us and motivate our continued support for his improvement in farming and fermentation practices.
We began working with Yenser and Finca El Pincel in 2022, and we are excited to keep building this relationship!
