Finca El Suspiro is located in Algéciras, Huila, Colombia, and is managed by Ricardo Silva, a 59-year-old, second-generation coffee grower. The farm consists of 12 hectares of land and sits at an elevation of 1900 m.a.s.l, with around 29,000 coffee trees in production of the Pink Bourbon, Java, Geisha, and Caturra varieties.
Ricardo processes his coffee by harvesting the ripest cherries and leaving them to ferment for 24 hours before depulping them. Parchment is then placed in sealed tanks to ferment for an additional 48 hours and finally washed. The coffee is then spread in raised beds for 15 – 18 days, depending on the weather.
Ricardo Silva is an agro-preneur, in contact with coffee from an early age. He learned the craft from his father, and decided to start his own farm, El Suspiro, over 20 years ago.
This journey had its ups and downs, but the farm is still going strong, now with the acquisition of yet another farm downhill, where he plans to grow Caturra and build his own wet mill for experimental processes!
His focus on efficient processes and specialty is truly remarkable. We started working with Finca El Suspiro in 2024, and we are in the path of growing our relationship strong!
