Finca La Marulanda is located in Vereda La Cartagena, Urrao, Antioquia, Colombia, and is managed by Santiago Salas, a 30‑year‑old producer. The farm spans 2 hectares at 1,800 m.a.s.l., where Santiago grows the Chiroso variety across 2,500 trees, with an additional 1,000 trees on the way.
Santiago uses the “cochadas” processing method: he harvests ripe cherries, selects them, and depulps daily until Friday, fermenting the accumulated parchment in concrete tanks with a small amount of water for 4 to 5 days. After fermentation, the coffee is washed and dried in a marquesina for 8 to 12 days, with constant turning to ensure even drying.
Santiago grew up in the countryside of southwestern Antioquia. At 18, he moved to the city, but he always longed to return. That opportunity came thanks to his father‑in‑law, who gave his wife a small piece of land in Urrao. In 2023, Santiago planted his first 400 Chiroso trees there. Later, he purchased the adjacent lot (which was already in production) from his brother‑in‑law.
Since then, Santiago has been dedicated to caring for his coffee with a focus on specialty quality, always seeking to improve. In addition to coffee, he also grows avocados on the farm.
We began working with Santiago and Finca La Marulanda in 2026, and we are excited to keep building this relationship.
