Orlando Rosillo is a 76-year-old coffee producer located in Espíndola, Loja, Ecuador. His farm, Finca El Guabo y El Laurel spans approximately 1 hectare at 1,550 m.a.s.l. Here, he cultivates a traditional mix of Criollo, Typica, Catimor, and Catucaí varieties.
Orlando’s processing begins with the careful harvest of ripe cherries that are depulped the next morning, followed by a 32-hour fermentation in tanks. After thorough washing, the coffee is dried on African beds for 15 to 19 days, depending on the weather, with constant movement to ensure an even drying.
Orlando grew up harvesting coffee and has dedicated himself professionally to the trade for the past 25 years. His experience runs deep, but he is the first to acknowledge that his age brings daily challenges.
Some of those challenges are related to planting and re-planting varieties; for that reason he had decided to re-plant with some of the newer short-stature trees such as Catucaí (a hybrid from Brazil that is quite popular in the region).
We began working with Orlando in 2025, and we hope to keep building this relationship in the future!
