Finca Pampa Bonita, in Loja, Ecuador

Finca Pampa Bonita is located in Quilanga, Loja, Ecuador, and is managed by Marcelo Villalta, a 38-year-old third-generation coffee producer. The farm sits at an elevation of 1,750 m.a.s.l., and spans 5 hectares, with 1.5 Ha of coffee of the Typica, Catimor, and San Salvador varieties. In addition, he has planted some Typica Mejorado which should enter production in the coming years.

After harvesting, the cherries undergo a 5-day fermentation, followed by a 36-hour fermentation after de-pulping. The parchment is then dried for 15 to 25 days, depending on the climate, in a marquesina (greenhouse) under semi-shade.

A Legacy of Resilience and Renewed Passion

Marcelo grew up surrounded by coffee, learning the craft from his grandfather and father. He inherited the family farm in 2008, but in 2012 their coffee trees were devastated by a rust outbreak, taking a toll on Marcelo’s motivation.

However, in 2015, Marcelo reignited his passion for coffee, focusing on quality and seeking out specialty markets. His perseverance paid off, and in 2023 he began working with Capamaco, which helped him in improving the coffees quality and consistency. In addition to coffee, Finca Pampa Bonita grows fruit trees, avocados, and bananas.

2024 marks the beginning of our relationship with Marcelo and Finca Pampa Bonita, and we are excited to share his exceptional coffee with you!
