Finca Buena Vista is located in the Antigua Valley, Guatemala, and is managed by Luis Pedro Zelaya Aguirre, who has overseen the farm since in 1995. The farm spans 90 hectares at elevations between 1,500 and 1,890 m.a.s.l., where the Zelaya family cultivates Geisha… a variety that has become the farm’s signature.
This Washed Geisha lot is carefully harvested at peak ripeness, then processed at the farm’s own wet mill. After depulping, the coffee undergoes fermentation, is washed, and dried on African beds for up to 16 days, depending on the weather, with constant movement to ensure an even drying process.
Buena Vista’s Geisha journey began with a gift. A close family friend and neighbor at Finca Filadelfia, returning from Panama with Geisha seeds, generously shared some with Luis Pedro Zelaya. That simple gesture marked the beginning of a long and patient pursuit. The first generations showed exceptional cup quality but lacked uniformity, displaying variability in growth, productivity, and fruit characteristics.
Rather than replacing the material, the family chose to improve it. Over the years, they carefully selected seeds from the best-performing trees, evaluating morphology, vigor, branching, and overall health, as well as the sweetness and flavor of ripe cherries and cup quality. Generation after generation, this selection process has produced a more uniform and stable Geisha population while preserving the floral elegance and complexity that define the variety.
We began working with Finca Buena Vista and the Zelaya family in 2026, and we are excited to build this relationship.
